“I am communicating within acceptable parameters,” he said.
Jane shook her head. “Yeah. That’s the problem.”
She looked back at the road. “You’re stuck in the middle now.”
Cam didn’t answer.
It was the closest description anyone had given him.
Not incorrect.
Not prohibited.
But it resolved nothing.
The truck continued along the road, its engine humming steadily.
Beside Jane, Cam continued operating exactly as designed.
He couldn’t lie to her.
He couldn’t tell her the truth.
He existed somewhere in between.
